Going to a public school with a reputation for hard work and academic excellence really felt like the perfect fit for me… I was very impressed with Hunter’s blend of theory and practice. I really like how the planning program engages directly with New York City and its communities.
Recent alumnus, Alexandra Hanson (MUP ’11) exemplifies Hunter UAP success. As a student Alex served as the president of Hunter UAP’s graduate student organization, GUAPA. While in office, Alex helped coordinate countless activities from fundraisers for conferences and happy hours to community service actions. While pursuing her degree, Alex worked as Outreach Coordinator for the CUNY Institute for Sustainable Cities (CISC), where she organized a range of sustainability programming. She brings these and countless other skills to her post-grad position.
In her current position as a Policy Director with New York State Association for Affordable Housing (NYSAFAH), she advocates for affordable housing.
Each day is new. I am learning every day. Much of what I do on a day-to-day basis at NYSAFAH pertains to policy, it is greatly informed by the planning knowledge I gained while at HunterUAP.
Prior to enrolling in the MUP program, Alex worked on legislative issues and lobbied for the New York Public Interest Research Group (NYPIRG).
