Meet Me at the Cube: Public Realm, Retail, and Micromobility in the Village Alliance

The Village Alliance Business Improvement District spans a diverse and dynamic section of Lower Manhattan, from Second Avenue to Sixth Avenue. Despite the area’s cultural significance, it faces growing economic
pressure from storefront vacancies, outdated infrastructure, and fragmented public space.

This report presents a forward-looking vision and a pragmatic menu of interventions to enhance the District’s economic competitiveness, environmental resilience, and public realm cohesion. The goal is to propose actionable strategies for revitalizing key economic corridors, improving
experiences for all modes, and unifying the District’s identity through integrated street design and public space improvements.
